2020 Central Oregon Light Art Application

Step 1 of 3

  • Light up the banks of the Deschutes River

The 21st annual Oregon WinterFest, kicks off on February 14th, in Bend, Oregon. Bend’s own winter carnival will take place February 14th-16th in the Old Mill District.

2019 marked the first annual Central Oregon Light Art (COLA) exhibition, a successful expansion of the popular Fire Pit and Sculpture installations visitors look forward to every year. Regional artists will illuminate the banks of the Deschutes river with rich environments and art pieces, all centered around light.

This year the area devoted to creative displays has been named the Light, Ice & Fire Exposition (L.I.F.E.). The COLA exhibition will be featured in this section of the festival.

Light art is a traditional way to celebrate the night during these dark times of the year, originating when candles and torches were the only source of light. With the advent of modern ways of creatively thinking about light and technology these installations have become focal events in themselves — in Europe, and more recently, in North America. This year, Oregon WinterFest brings this modern tradition to Bend.

We are looking for artists and creative thinkers to join us for this enlightened art show. Artists are encouraged to light up the banks of the Deschutes River with their most creative work. Technical support will be available to artists in the creative process.

The Oregon WinterFest committee will review all images of existing work and invite accepted artists to create up to three light art pieces for inclusion in Oregon WinterFest 2020. Existing light art may also be considered. All entries will be available for sale.
