Light up the banks of the Deschutes River
2019 marked the first annual Central Oregon Light Art (COLA) exhibition, a successful expansion of the popular Fire Pit and Sculpture installations visitors look forward to every year. Regional artists will illuminate the banks of the Deschutes River with rich environments and art pieces, all centered around light.
This year the area devoted to creative displays has been named the Light, Ice & Fire Exposition (L.I.F.E.). The COLA exhibition will be featured in this section of the festival.
Light art is a traditional way to celebrate the night during these dark times of the year, originating when candles and torches were the only source of light. With the advent of modern ways of creatively thinking about light and technology these installations have become focal events in themselves — in Europe, and more recently, in North America. This year, OnPoint Community Credit Union Oregon WinterFest brings this modern tradition to Bend.
